Best practice code for rope access

Published:  09 April, 2010

The world’s leading authority on industrial rope access has published a freely downloadable code of practice for rope access.

IRATA International (the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) has produced a new ICOP (International Code of Practice) to reflect current best practice.

The ICOP will replace the IRATA Guidelines on the use of rope access for industrial purposes.

Part 1 and 2 provide guidance on planning and management, selection of technicians and their training, selection of equipment, supervision, inspection regime and maintenance of equipment as well as primary rope access work methods.

Part 3 consists of informative annexes addressing such issues as risk assessments, method statements, inspection checklists, use of tools etc.

Part 4 contains local legislation requirements to assist the many international companies using the Code.

The ICOP is being translated into eight different languages. Printed copies are available at £50 each, or it can be downloaded freely here.
