Advanced mobile printing for fire safety inspections

Published:  24 November, 2009

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) has implemented a new mobile print facility which allows Fire Safety letters and documentation to be printed and delivered at the point of inspection.

This new facility is part of the brigade’s implementation of CFRMIS Mobile a specialist solution created by Bristol Based software developers, Innogistic.

CFRMIS (Community Fire Safety Management Information System) is a software solution used by 60% of Great Britain’s Fire and Rescue Services to maintain accurate fire safety records and manage the day to day workload of their fire safety officers (FSO’s).

The solution also off ers mobile functionality (called CFRMIS Mobile) which allows FSO’s to download scheduled jobs,  such as Home Fire Safety Checks or Technical Fire Safety Audits, to portable electronic devices such as a Tablet PC or PDA. The FSO can then undertake the Fire Safety Inspection and, whilst still on site, can gather and enter all the relevant information using the portable device.

The new printing capability means that, upon completion of the inspection, the FSO can now print out statutory fire safety documents and or letters and deliver them directly to the owner / occupier of the property concerned. Not only does this save on postage and administrative costs but it is also a powerful motivator for the occupiers to comply with any recommendations made in the documents.

John Hinton, Risk Intelligence Data Manager at HFRS said; “We have a Deficiencies Letter, a Satisfactory Letter and a Prohibition Notice that can now be printed in the fi eld. This is a huge milestone in mobile working for our Protection Officers who are genuinely pleased with the results”. Referring to the implementation of CFRMIS Mobile at HFRS, John said; “we recently reported 15% year on year effi ciency gains following the implementation of CFRMIS Mobile. Now that we also have the on-site print facilities that figure can only improve further”
