New equipment on the market

New Draeger gas monitor:
A new maintenance-free gas detection personal monitoring instrument has been launched by Draeger.
The X-am 5000 measures between one and five gases and is as small as a mobile phone.
The X-am can be fitted with up to four sensors that can detect five gases at once, eg using a catalytic Ex-sensor with two electrochemical sensors and a combination sensor for CO and H2S provides simultaneous measurement of explosive gases and vapours as well as toxic gases.
A five-year expected lifetime guaranteed is also on offer, and the X-am is both ATEX (zone 0) and IP67 approved.

Illuminating escape routes with eXitfinders:
EXitfinder, manufactured by Fireco, is a directional indicator that illuminates to highlight an evacuation route in the event of a fire alarm sounding.
Once the system’s transmitter unit (positioned by the fire alarm) identifies an alarm condition, it signals to all eXitfinder units within a 100m range. The eXitfinders illuminate an arrow that highlights the evacuation route.

Viking Electronicchanges name:
US fire alarm and detection company Viking Electronic Services is to be known as VES LLC following its acquisition by UK company Kentec Electronics.
“Kentec has been working closely with Viking for over six years in the development of the ‘eLan’ fire alarm. When matched with Kentec’s comprehensive range of conventional, analog addressable fire detection and extinguishing releasing panels this acquisition provides many new opportunities and synergies,” commented Kente MD Ray King.
Kentec recently introduced a number of new products into the market during IFSEC 2008. New products include the Syncro Matrix, a revolutionary fibre optic, future-proofed fire alarm display technology; Sigma XT+ range, a powerful, fully EN compliant, conventional multi-area extinguishant control panel; and Syncro GUIDE v3, an improved powerful fire alarm management system.
Modular fire panel board from Bosch
An innovative fire panel system based on complete modularity has been designed by Bosch Security Systems.
The system integrates into a network through CAN-BUS (Controller Area Network) technology that provides security in the event of cable breakdown.
The fire system can be integrated into Bosch’s Building Integration System via Ehternet.
The modules that make up the system are in encapsulated housings and each module can be connected to existing pre-wired panel rails on the “click and go” principle. Models are also “hot-swappable” so they can be replaced or extended without powering down the system.
The system can be built up from a stand-alone fire alarm panel based on a single loop with a maximum of 254 device, to a maximum of 32 loops with 4,064 devices.

FireMist finally launched:
The patented FireMist watermist fire suppression system from Pursuit Dynamics has finally been launched at the National Fire Protection Association’s World Safety Conference and Exposition in Last Vegas, Nevada.
According to CEO John Heathcote the technology had experienced a number of delays, but the launch came at a time of growing acceptance of watermist benefits in fire suppression.
“Following initial Factory Mutual approvals late last year the number of potential applications for FireMist has grown at a steady rate,” commented Heathcote.

Wolf Safety presents ATEX luminaires:
Sheffield light specialist Wolf Safety has launched a range of linkable ATEX Certified portable fluorescent luminaires, approved for use in Zone 1 (Cat 2) IIC T3/T4 Hazardous Areas, for heavy duty application in the most demanding of areas, such as the oil, gas and petrochemical industries and the utility markets.
Available with twin or quad 18W, 36W or 55W energy efficient fluorescent lamp combinations in a wide range of voltages (24V – 254V), producing impressive white light output, the luminaires can be instantly linked in series (plug and play), or side by side to provide temporary lighting solutions using ATEX plugs and sockets.
A unique feature of these fluorescent luminaires is that they are quick and easy to re-lamp using standard compact fluorescent lamps readily available from electrical retailers.
Certified to the latest standards and compliant with the ATEX equipment directives, including “end of life” protection circuit ballast for enhanced safety, the luminaires can be fixed in any orientation from mounting points compatible with Unistrut channel support systems and accessories.
