High aspirations

Honeywell Analytics completes acquisition of Xtralis.

The manufacturer of aspirating smoke detection and video analytics software has been acquired by Honeywell Analytics for US$480 million.

Xtralis’s smoke detection solutions provide early warning for a wide variety of environments including data centres, historical buildings, airports, industrial sites and manufacturing facilities. The manufacturer was a pioneer in very early warning technology that can detect smoke in a facility at an early stage of a fire, which gives emergency responders additional time to help prevent or minimise physical damage and injury.

Xtralis, which is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland has now become part of Honeywell Security and Fire, a business unit of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions.

David Paja, president of Honeywell Security and Fire, said that the acquisition would strengthen its offering for the protection of critical infrastructure and high-value assets such as IT data centres. ‘The acquisition of Xtralis is a good strategic fit to our current fire detection portfolio and will bring unique capabilities and customer solutions in remote visual verification of fire and intrusion risks, advanced perimeter security technologies, and video analytics software.’

Honeywell Analytics recently paid around US$123 million for RSI Video Technologies - known by the Videofied brand - which supplies intrusion detection systems for commercial and residential security applications.
