Training for shipboard incidents

Published:  10 September, 2015

SEE VIDEO New simulator enables emergency crews to train for incidents in compliance with STCW advanced fire fighting courses.

The Rescuesim Advanced Fire Fighting Simulator introduced by Vstep includes functionality, environments, emergency equipment and objects that are common to specific types of shipboard incidents and which comply with advanced fire fighting training as outlined by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

The simulator is modular and scalable with a typical set-up comprising an instructor station and additional stations for an on-scene commander and fire team leaders.

During training students can assess the situation and determine the best response strategy as well as immediately observe the consequences of their decisions in real time. The technology enables the instructor to influence ongoing scenarios as well as create new scenarios using the instructor’s ‘toolbox’.

The RescueSim AFF simulator can also be linked with the Nautis ship bridge simulator for additional incident command training of ship bridge personnel.
