Essex FRS hits the ‘hot spot’

Published:  21 August, 2015

Essex Fire & Rescue in southeast England has made a significant investment in safety by purchasing 80 advanced thermal imaging cameras.

Features in the Scott Safety X380 thermal imaging cameras include the ‘hot spot tracker’, which enable firefighters to find the hottest point of a fire and navigate safely through a scene.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Adam Eckley commented on the latest purchase: ‘They are the latest investment we have made in our frontline crews’ safety and ensuring that we provide a robust response to all emergency incidents. This is part of the on-going work we are doing in improving our operational capacity, investing in the safety of our crews and ensuring they have the best equipment available.’

The simplicity, robustness and image quality were all contributing factors to the selection of the cameras Essex FRS, according to a statement by Scott Safety.

Steve Foster, Technical Services and R&D Officer, commented: ‘Our eyes are literally opened by using thermal imaging camers, and the X380 is just so clear and easy to use that it saves us valuable time when at a scene.’

The X380 thermal imaging camera was originally designed and built by ISG, based in Essex and now part of Scott Safety.
