Extended breathing duration for BA

Firefighters can choose between three different capacities – 5.7 litre, 7.6 litre and 9.5 litre – which equate to 45, 60 and 75 minutes of air based on a breathing rate of 40 litres per minute.

Revealed at Safety and Health 2015 in Excel, London, the new cylinders consist of an aluminium alloy inner shell over-wrapped with carbon fibre.

According to Scott Safety, the increased pressure has resulted in smaller cylinders with the same breathing rate as equivalent standard cylinders but with greater comfort, by enabling BA wearers to more easily shift the centre of gravity. The shorter cylinder also avoids interference with helmets and other equipment.

The cylinders can be used with Scott Safety’s Propak F and Propak Fx self contained breathing apparatus, which have been approved to EN 137: 2006 (Type 2) and MED.
