Detecting both hydrocarbon and hydrogen fires – with one device

Published:  07 April, 2015

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: the 40/40M Multi IR detector is the only detector that can detect both these hazards simultaneously.

Hydrocarbon and hydrogen flames each have their own spectral fingerprint which leads to a high reliability with the right equipment – so one type of detector can be installed for excellent flame detection in areas where hydrogen flames are a possibility, and without missing hydrocarbon flames.

The 40/40M from Spectrex is able to detect hydrocarbon flames at up to 215ft (65m) and hydrogen flames at up to 125ft (38m), with the highest immunity to false alarms. It retains all the benefits of the SharpEye 40/40 range, including high immunity to false alarm and a wide range of approvals, including ATEX, IECEx, FM, SIL2 and many more.

‘We decided to develop the 40/40M Multi IR Detector as we saw an increasing interest and requirement in the industry for detection of both hydrocarbon and hydrogen fires simultaneously. The 40/40M is unique in this simultaneous detection and is the only detector on the market with this ability,’ said a Spectrex spokesperson.
