WS Darley releases new response vehicle for disaster relief

Published:  04 December, 2014

TECHNOLOGY: The new specialised vehicle was unveiled at the AIDF Disaster Relief Summit in Washington DC.

This vehicle integrates a range of operating capabilities including:

  • Medical care service clinic for EMS triage and examination.
  • A vehicle-mounted water purification system, which will produce up to 5,000 gallons per day of safe drinking water. This treatment system is tested to the US EPA Standard for microbiological water purifiers to effectively remove particulate, turbidity, bacteria, virus and cysts.
  • A firefighting system which enables effective fire suppression with 250 GPM @ 150 PSI complete with poly tank.
  • A specialised disinfection kit, supplied as a modular component, can effectively avoid cross contamination between different scenes.

‘The Multi-Purpose Vehicle provides immediate solutions for the developing world. This single vehicle can perform multiple tasks across a wide range of unexpected demands. It has the potential to be an operational game changer for the future of Emergency Response,’ said Peter Darley, Chief Operating Officer, WS Darley & Company.

While the needs are immediate abroad, MABAS’ (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Chief Reardon believes there are also applications that add value to fire departments in other parts of the world. The medical triage and examination capability is an interesting concept that can benefit all fire departments. The integration of these critical functions, especially with high-risk EMS patients, could be advantageous for EMS teams with budget and staffing issues. A proactive approach to medical home health calls could be an effective method to utilise tax credits that can further benefit budget-sensitive fire departments.’

Darley and MABAS will present the Multi-Purpose Vehicle on December 3, at the MABAS Readiness Center in Wheeling, Chicago IL. Darley encourages anyone in the greater Chicago area to visit the center and learn more about the future of the Multi-Purpose Vehicle.

The Multi-Purpose Vehicle is a culmination of dedicated work from WS Darley & Company, Terranova GTS LLC and Navistar to help bring effective solutions around the world.  Terranova GTS LLC is a Chicago-based company that designs and markets vocational American vehicles.
