Win a trip to the FDNY/ US and Canada Firefighters can win a trip to a German Fire Department

Published:  29 July, 2014

More than 25 million people around the world boldly, selflessly, and courageously engage in fire safety and disaster relief every day. And they now have the opportunity to put themselves and their extraordinary endeavours for society forward for the international Conrad Dietrich Magirus Award. Firefighting teams still have until August 31, 2014, to enter this international competition.

The award, which Magirus is presenting for the second time this year, acknowledges the outstanding achievements of fire departments and aims to raise public awareness of their commitment to firefighting. The winners are presented with a Conrad Dietrich Magirus statuette and can look forward to a once in a life time trip to meet their counterparts in the New York City Fire Department.

Should a US or Canadian team win the competition, they will alternatively be able to opt for a trip to Germany. Firefighting teams wishing to enter simply have to submit a brief report about an incident call, including images. For example, teams can put themselves forward for consideration on the basis of demanding fire extinguishing incidents, brave rescues, or an exemplary team effort. The incident in question must have happened after September 9, 2013. For more details and for the entry forms, firefighting teams should go to

Finalists to travel to Germany

‘We were delighted by the huge response and the positive feedback from fire departments all over the world last year,’ says Tobias Knebel representing the competition organizers Magirus. ‘We are now keen to find out who comes out on top this year, thus following in the footsteps of the Palermo firefighting team,’ Knebel continues. The Italian team won last year’s competition with a heroic response to a call and returned from their trip to meet their FDNY counterparts just a few weeks ago, with plenty of unforgettable memories.

A top-caliber jury of international firefighting experts will make a preliminary selection of potential winners from among all the submissions once the competition has closed on August 31. These finalists will then go head to head in a public global online vote. The three firefighting teams with the most votes can then look forward to a trip to Germany: they will be invited to attend the award ceremony which will be held on Friday, November 21, in Ulm, where Magirus has its head office.
