Critical Water and Flood Rescue Survival Decisions for SAR Conference announced in Charlotte, NC

17 October 2014, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Published:  24 July, 2014

After the successful SAR to Resuscitation – Floodfighters Lifesaving Conference, UK, March 2014, another ‘US/UK Water Rescue Masterclass’ is being hosted by Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) and the Emergency Management of North Carolina.

Several hundred international delegates have attended workshops hosted by CFD over the ten years partnership programme of exchange visits of officers and managers from the UK, wider EU, Australia and US; acquiring the highest value tactical skillsets and knowledge for the improved safety of their communities.

The focus will be on high-level rescue boat operations (RBOs), simulated deployment in the field from a Base of Operations (BOOs) and tactical/technical flood and water response issues. Delegates are specialist training, flood and water response staff, flood incident managers, instructors, tactical advisers and managers.

With an emphasis on deployment in the field for the first four days with night boat rescue operations and navigation techniques and helo-aquatic rescue (helicopter operations) and UAS/V surveillance and reconnaissance techniques will be carried out with involvement of delegates. The attendees will also visit the Charlotte Fire Department Dive Rescue Station.

During the conference on October 17, pre-eminent US, UK and international experts from the worlds of fire and rescue, EMS, SAR, academia, and Lifesaving medical will share the latest vital safety critical information with first responders.

Their focus will be on water and flood rescue strategies involving complex risk and the consequences of decision making.

‘Much has been achieved, however threats to the lives of our citizens from drowning continue and that from flooding is arguably growing, due to climatic change, together with the threats to those who respond to resolve events. We clearly need to continue to share understanding, information and learning, to identify best practice and strategies,’ commented organiser David Lane, owner of Prorescue.
