New Stronghold bomb proof anchor makes line rescue safer

Published:  16 June, 2014

The new Stronghold Mobile Anchor Point and Barrier System was invented by London firefighter, Daniel Cheddie, who has teamed up with Capital Safety and the Youngman Group.

The aim of the Stronghold is to provide an instant safe and secure dedicated anchor point, to maximise safety for crews, other emergency service personnel and the public when working at height during line rescue from a window, lift or other vertical opening.

From the housed carry position to full setup in under five minutes the Stronghold instantly provides a highly visible barrier around the opening, preventing necessary crews in the vicinity from getting close enough to the opening to fall.
The Stronghold is free standing and does not require any fixing to the walls or floor. Therefore unlike fitting anchor bolts no drilling, curing time or pull tests are required, saving valuable time at an incident.

Two horizontal life lines are connected to the Stronghold in seconds, providing the harness attachment point for two crew members, protecting them both in either a fall restraint, fall arrest or work positioning mode. The Stronghold also has separate anchor points to attach tools or other equipment to via load straps and lanyards.

Years of research, development and prototyping have led to a lightweight and extremely strong design. Rigorous testing has been conducted and certification given to enable two users to attach to the Stronghold simultaneously.

Standard tests for Britain/Europe, Australia, Canada and the US have been achieved.
During these demanding tests the Stronghold was required to support 1.9T (roughly the weight of 23 men or an estate car) and did so without any signs of permanent deformity.
Storing, transporting and setting up the Stronghold is simple and can be done by a single crew member in under five minutes. The two side units are unfolded and positioned against the walls around the opening, the two horizontal connectors are clamped into position and the life line is connected, no tools are required. After use the Stronghold can be folded away in seconds, down to approximately 1300mm x 150mm x 300mm weighing little over 13Kg per side unit

Manufactured in strong, lightweight aluminium the Stronghold weighs little over 30Kg (between the four easy-to-carry components with the two main ones weighing around 13Kg each).

The Stronghold is adjustable from 900mm to 1900mm in depth from the wall to allow storage of tools and equipment inside the Stronghold work area and to work over immovable objects such as kitchen work tops. It is also adjustable from 1300mm to over 2000mm in height from the floor level to enclose openings fully, and to 3700mm in width to enclose two lifts or window openings simultaneously. Apart from providing safety to crews around windows and lift shafts the Stronghold also maximises safety when crews are working on roofs that do not have edge protection. Setting up the Stronghold around an adjacent window opening instantly provides the protection the crews requires.

The Stronghold is manufactured from the highest quality materials, solely in the UK by Youngman Group, an ISO: 9001 company. Our quality, technical assistance, training options and after sales service compliment the unbeatable standards of the Stronghold.
The Stronghold will be available in 44 countries around the world through a long established distributor network.
