New LNG Training facility for Falck Risc

Published:  19 May, 2014

Falck Risc in the Netherlands, provider of education and training in preventing and fighting incidents in the industrial sector and for public services, has extended its services with a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Training facility on the Maasvlakte near Rotterdam.

What happens if there is a spill on land or in water? What happens if the gas vapour ignites? What will the extreme temperature liquid do to my personal protection? What happens if I use water on the product? How can I extinguish the fire? All these questions and much more will be answered in lectures and practical demonstrations at the LNG training facility with 2,500 litres of LNG that will be dumped into a pit to show the effects of the initial release, the use of water on the pool of LNG, extinguishing possibilities with dry chemical powder;  and finally how to use high-expansion foam to control the release.

On the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, Gate terminal constructed the first LNG import terminal in the Netherlands. The terminal will have an initial throughput capacity of 12 billion m3 per annum and will consist of three storage tanks, two jetties and a process area where the LNG will be regassified. Annual throughput capacity can be increased to 16 bcm in the future. The terminal dovetails with Dutch and European energy policies, built on the pillars of strategic diversification of LNG supplies, sustainability, safety and environmental awareness. The initiators and partners in Gate terminal are NV Nederlandse Gasunie (Gasunie) and Koninklijke Vopak NV (Vopak).

In May this year Gate terminal will deliver the first students to train on the brand new training facility.
