Guide to British Standard BS 5839

Published:  25 March, 2014

Static Systems Group in conjunction with Apollo Fire Detectors publish a pocket sized guide providing designers and installers of fire detection systems with the key points in BS 5839 Part1: 2013.

BS 5839-1:2013 provides recommendations for the planning, design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in and around non-domestic buildings.

The 20-page guide provides information on the positioning and mounting of audible alarms, manual call points and detection devices, using simple and clear graphics to illustrate the various sections of the standard.

In order to help locate further information in the full standard, each illustration has a tag informing readers of the specific section and clause being covered.

There are also useful comments on the The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, cabling requirements, installation considerations and a checklist for handover.

Static Systems’ Director of Fire Alarm Sales, Phil Wade said: “During 2014 we plan to support designers and installers of fire alarm systems with a series of seminars held throughout the country.  Our principle aim is to help reduce the occurrence of unwanted alarms through good system design and we feel that an easy to understand, quick guide to the key points in BS 5839 is a great starting point.”
