Modular fire truck delivers high-pressure firefighting capability

Published:  04 March, 2014

The newly launched Fire Engine No.1 manufactured by German company Renka uses high-pressure water mist to tackle fires, and can be fitted with several replaceable subframes to make it a real multi-tasking vehicle.

The new rapid deployment truck either comes as a diesel or a petrol unit.

A high-quality transport rack makes it easy to transport the complex modular system consisting of the high-pressure pump unit with diesel motor, water tank and foaming agent canister.

Because of the very low water consumption due to the high-pressure water mist unit, it is possible to extinguish for 10 minutes using the separate 200-litre water tank and the 20-litre foaming agent tank. An additional rack with two water tanks can be added, which increases the extinguishing time to 30 minutes.

The long extinguishing time is achieved through a combination of factors, including the use of high pressure and the use of  the Vario extinguishing pistol. During the process, the water/foaming mixture is finely atomised both to ensure the reduction of oxygen at the source of fire and the penetration of the extinguishing agent into the burning material.

The advantage of water atomisation is that it increases the surface coverage of the water, enabling it to absorb high volumes energy from the source of fire, thereby dissipating the heat.

‘The modular frame is characterised not only by its robustness and high quality workmanship but also by its high degree of operational and tactical advantages. Different loading concepts are possible,’ said owner of the company, Michael Renka.

For firefighting operations, the modular frame of Renka's Fire Engine No. 1 can be equipped with a high pressure extinguishing device and a 200 L tank. An additional foaming agent canister can be included, while hoses and other consumables can be transported on the delivery tray.

Transportation to the deployment location without expending a great amount of effort is possible through the use of optional castors. A single person is able to move the loaded module despite the high weight.

A secondary modular frame can carry two additional water tanks. A bearing device for a foaming agent canister is implemented in this as well. Any units or devices that have a frame substructure in accordance with DIN 14 685 can be implemented in the modular frame.

Four lifting eyebolts in the upper area of the modular frames have been incorporated so they can be loaded and transported by crane. Each modular frame has holding fixtures for secure transportation by lift truck or forklift, and all of them can be stacked and secured with lashing straps for transportation.

Several lashing points make it possible to stow the sub frames for future use.
