Fire and rescue services in New South Wales switch to environmentally-responsible class A and B foam

Published:  02 October, 2013

Solberg's Asia-Pacific division has been awarded a multi-year contract by the New South Wales (Australia) Government for the supply of firefighting foam.

Solberg Asia Pacific Pty has been awarded a three-year contract for the supply of Re-Healing RF 3x6 ATC Class B and Fire-Brake Class A foam concentrates for use by both the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) and Fire & Rescue NSW (previously known as New South Wales Fire Brigades). Additionally, included under this contract are NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services, Forestry Corporation of NSW, other State related agencies, plus member agencies of the Australasian Fire Authorities Council.

Re-Healing RF 3x6 ATC is a high-performance fluorochemical free foam concentrate that easily extinguishes hydrocarbon (petrol) and polar solvent (ethanol) fuel fires. It can also be used to prevent re-ignition of a liquid spill and control hazardous vapours. Fire & Rescue NSW, and NSW Rural Fire Service will no longer use AFFF, FFFP or other fluorochemical based foams that are environmentally persistent.

Fire-Brake Class A foam achieved fame in 1994 by assisting NSW firefighters in successfully extinguishing the largest wildfires to ever surround Sydney. By making water up to ten times more effective the product was later recognized as one of The Top 100 Australian Inventions and Innovations of the Last Century by the Sydney Powerhouse Museum and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire & Rescue NSW join Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, Queensland Rural Fire Service, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Emergency Services Agency, the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade, The Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Bushfires NT (Northern Territory) as converted believers in fluorochemical-free fire fighting foam technology from Solberg.
