32 Argentinean fire trucks equipped with thermal imaging cameras

Published:  23 September, 2013

Cameras from Orlaco will enable forest wildland fire fighting trucks to scan the terrain and avoid obstacles.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner officially presented the 32 fire trucks to the national fire department.

The Orlaco thermal imaging cameras are mounted on a rotating and elevating unit on the trucks, allowing the drivers in the cab to view on a large screen exactly where he is and avoid any obstacles. The Orlaco-built thermal imaging cameras are waterproof and shock-resistant, and can easily be mounted on the bumper of the vehicle.

The project’s roots go back to 2010 during the Interschutz exhibition in Leipzig, where the Argentinean fire department was introduced to the potential solution during a demonstration by the Dutch camera manufacturer and developer Orlaco.

Jacinto Ltda in Portugal built the first 32 vehicles and CMS Sudamericana SRL transported the vehicles to Argentina. Tijmen van Ginkel of Orlaco went on site to Buenos Aires and trained the operators and technicians on using the TICs.
