Conrad Dietrich Magirus Award: What country has the best fire department in the world?

Published:  27 August, 2013

Applications for the international award can be submitted until September 8 at www.world-of-firefighters.com. The winning team will fly to New York City to visit the fire department (FDNY).

The countdown has started: until September 8,  firefighting teams around the world can apply for the Conrad Dietrich Magirus Award, with which IVECO MAGIRUS honors the best firefighting team of the year. All fire departments are encouraged to take part, as the winners will receive a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York including a look behind the scenes at likely the most famous fire department in the world (FDNY). If you’d like to try your luck at winning this unique award and, at the same time, raise awareness about the key role that fire departments play, you can find an entry form and all the competition details at www.world-of-firefighters.com.

“We would like even more fire departments to take advantage of this opportunity – we need to draw more attention to their dedication to serving the public and honour it in a special way,” explains Tobias Knebel from Iveco Magirus, the event organizer. That’s exactly what the competition aims to do: the Conrad Dietrich Magirus Award was designed to more actively focus public attention on the services provided by firefighters around the world, as well as contribute to attracting new members for fire departments.

Fire departments can find detailed information and participation forms at www.world-of-firefighters.com. Only stories occurring after September 30, 2012, will be considered. All you have to submit is a brief report about your most successful intervention, including images and key information about the tactics and sequence of events. Following the application deadline on September 8, 2013, an international jury of fire department experts from a variety of segments will select the finalists for the public online voting. Fire department enthusiasts from all over the world can vote for their favorites. The top three firefighting teams will then be invited to attend the award ceremony held in Germany on November 22, 2013. In Ulm, where Iveco Magirus Brandschutztechnik is headquartered, they can expect to enjoy a spectacular, festive ceremony.
