Award presented during the 7th Computable Awards Show for the RescueSim Virtual Airport Incident Management simulator.
Schiphol Airport is one of the first airports in the world to use a virtual incident management simulator for airport incident preparation and management.
The RescueSim Airport Incident Management Simulator was rolled out during the summer, and comprises a highly detailed 3D training environment spanning over 100 km², incorporating all relevant aircraft types, emergency services equipment and vehicles as well as general airport equipment.
Among the other nominees in the “ICT-project of the year” category were projects for the Dutch State Railways, Twente University and KLM. The independent professional jury scored each of the nominated projects in this category for its innovation, implementation, professionalism, size and importance. As an additional guideline for the jury, over 28,000 readers also cast their votes online for each of the nominated projects.
According to the jury, using safe, cost effective and highly innovative virtual training technology to enhance safety and security for a vital and leading location like Schiphol Airport was the key to winning the award.
