Intergraph teams up with Copenhagen Fire Brigade, and the Danish National Survey and Cadastre to bring 1-1-2 mobile app to citizens

Published:  02 May, 2012

Copenhagen Fire Brigade, and the Danish National Survey and Cadastre (KMS - Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen) have partnered with Intergraph Corporation to develop a 1-1-2 mobile app for citizens who need to report an emergency. Financing the effort is TrygFonden, a Danish national foundation that supports and promotes life-saving initiatives.

Denmark is home to more than 5.5 million people. To respond to 1-1-2 calls throughout Denmark the agencies are using geographical data provided by KMS. The new app will integrate this information and make it available on mobile devices for faster emergency response. Location data from the app will be sent to one of two 1-1-2 control rooms for resource allocation and dispatch.

This agreement grew from an existing relationship between Intergraph and the National Survey and Cadastre (KMS) that use Intergraph’s geospatial software for map and cadastre production and Copenhagen Fire Brigade that use Intergraph’s geospatial software to locate 1-1-2 callers.

The mobile app serves as a supplement to traditional 1-1-2 calling, and positions Intergraph as a frontrunner in the mobile GIS market.

”Geographic information is useful in improving workflow efficiency and providing better services for citizens. By making that information available in the 1-1-2 app, we make it easier for people to call for help,” says Søren Reeberg Nielsen, Director at Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen. “This is a concrete benefit that will benefit people nationwide.”

Until now, 1-1-2 calls from mobile devices could identify only a rough location of the applicable cell tower – typically within several 100 meters. The new app will be able to locate the caller within a few meters, with no need for a nearby street name.

“Easy access to 1-1-2 dispatch is essential to maintaining public confidence, and providing fast and effective emergency response,” said John Graham, President, Intergraph Security, Government & Infrastructure. “Intergraph’s integrated technologies add another dimension to the nation’s 1-1-2 capabilities.”
