Garmont and Vibram launch a freeride skiboot for ski rescue crews
Published: 19 January, 2012
Because safety and comfort are a must for ski instructors, ski-lift workers, rescue and safety crews working in ski resorts, Garmont has partnered with Vibram to introduce a protective and high-performance ski boot for professional resort workers, called the Garmont Delirium FR 130+ which features a Vibram X-POWDER sole.
Ski rescue crews can work for hours under extreme winter conditions due to altitude, temperature and the terrain, a mix of snow, ice and rock, off-piste areas and metallic walking surfaces, etc. Consistently high performance and safety are mandatory to achieve their missions. Garmont Delirium enables rescue workers to quickly and safely rescue lost or injured people, by reaching and securing dangerous slopes.
In this demanding environment, workers need:
- good grip on different types of challenging terrain;
- traction on snow and wet terrain;
- speed, reactivity and precision to reach and escape dangerous slopes;
- comfort to endure very low temperatures and hours of use.
The Vibram X-POWDER high-performance rubber sole is the result of a combination of design and compound. The outsole shape is thin and flat for precision and stability when skiing. The outsole design is both grooved (traction) and smooth (grip), the outsole compound is Vibram Mont for traction and durability. A simple screwing system means the sole can be easily replaced when it is worn out.
The interchangeable soles are made of Vibram MONT, which provides enhanced grip and resistance to wear. The Vibram X-POWDER soles are compatible with the ISO Touring and Tech binding systems and provide excellent traction and durability, thanks to special channels derived from snow tires and the thickness of the sole. The bindings attach automatically to the shell. The sole can be changed easily and quickly thanks to just three fixing screws that ensure excellent stability due to the system of ridges on the polyurethane base.
