UK Rescue Challenge sets a new benchmark

Fire and Rescue visited the UK Rescue Challenge last week at Excel in London – 23-24 September. Have a look at the exclusive picture overview.
Teams from all over the UK as well as Spain and Ireland competed for titles in the five main rescue disciplines, extrication, rope rescue, trauma, urban search and rescue, and water rescue.

Rope rescue was one of the disciplines in which several teams from all over the UK competed.

Nine teams competed in the rope rescue challenge.

Teams were only told about their specific scenario just before the event.

According to UKRO, this was the most demanding rope rescue challenge up-to-date.

All outside team members took the challenge on the listed dock cranes at ExCel.

Teams were judged and marked on the areas of command, technical skill and medical intervention.

Indoor teams competition and finals were carried out on a bespoke rig.

Packexe SMASH was exhibiting its film for glass management during extrication.

Holmatro was showing its range of rescue tools for different technical rescue scenarios.

School dhildren were fascinated by Argus's range of thermal imaging cameras.

LFB's Silverton fire station was demonstrating the hidden fire dangers of the kitchen, accompanied by tasty snacks.

All the school children gathered together to see the spectacular live chip pan fire demonstration.

This competing team was having a strategic meeting in advance of the next part of the extrication competition.

The best chips are home cooked. However, the children that attended the UK Rescue Challenge now know never to put water on burning fat, as the LFB demonstrated.

A great ball of fire erupted from the burning chip pan. The young audience greatly appreciated the spectacle and responded with cheers and whistle blowing.

LFB's specialised water rescue team showed how they carry out a man overboard exercise.
