FIA launches voice alarm training course

The Fire Industry Association’s new technical training course is entitled Guidance on the Design and Implementation of Voice Alarm Systems.
The course, which will commence in September, is aimed at anyone who is involved in the design, commissioning, installation or maintenance of voice alarm systems as well as anyone involved in fire evacuation strategy, whether in the security, electrical or fire industries.
The technical one-day course will cover all key areas of voice alarm systems, including:
• Differences between a voice alarm system and public address system
• Standards relating to voice alarms, particularly EN 54 and BS 5839-8
• Creating a voice alarm design plan
• Use of stand-alone voice alarm sounders
• Selection and use of loudspeakers
• Audibility requirements and clarity considerations
• How to install and find faults with cables
• The interface between loudspeaker and fire alarm system
• Composition and use of life safety messages
• Using microphones and other ancillary equipment
• Amplifier power
Delegates achieving over 75% in the on-the-day assessments will receive a pass certificate and the course is also applicable for 8 FIA CPD hours.
The course will be run at locations around the UK throughout the year. The cost to attend the course is £150 for FIA members and £225 for non-FIA members.
