‘Competency Criteria for Fire Risk Assessors’ now available for public comment

The UK Fire Industry Association’s (FIA) Fire Risk Assessment Council has released the ‘Competency Criteria for Fire Risk Assessors’ draft document which is available for public comment.

The Council exists to establish criteria against which the competence of a fire risk assessor can be judged.  It is anticipated that these criteria will be used by professional bodies, third party certification bodies that register or certificate fire risk assessors and commercial companies that provide fire risk assessment services.

Comments should be submitted on the Competency Criteria Comment Form the by 7th September 2011 and emailed to fracompetencycouncil@gmail.com.

The draft document and comment form is available to download of the FIA homepage (www.fia.uk.com).  The criteria document and comment form will also be available on the websites of Competency Council members (listed below).

The Fire Risk Assessment Competency Council is a voluntary group of fire industry organisations, chaired by Iain Cox representing the Chief Fire Officers Association and Martin Duggan of the FIA is acting secretary.

The Council comprises a broad group of relevant stakeholders, emerged with the encouragement of Government to address the issue of defining a competent fire risk assessor.

The Competency Council held its first meeting in June 2010. Membership is informal and open and currently consists of:
