ARFF training in Northumberland

Firefighters from Northumberland have demonstrated the benefits of a new training facility at Newcastle Airport.
The hot fire breathing apparatus training facility was improved and extended at the end of last year thanks to funding from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service working partnership with Newcastle Airport.
The facility, which is run by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service officers to train their own firefighters, will recoup the investment by providing courses for other organisations.
There are plans to run 35 courses per year and it is currently being used to train Newcastle Airport firefighters as well as firefighters from London City Airport.
Steve Armstrong, Fire Service Manager at Newcastle Airport, said: ‘Newcastle Airport Fire Service has recently gained approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to become an Approved Training Provider for Aviation Mandatory Courses, to date we have attracted a raft of students from airports across the UK.’
