Sembcorp selects RescueSim for its Virtual Emergency Response Training

Published:  03 February, 2011

Sembcorp Utilities has selected the RescueSim Emergency Response Training platform as one of its training tools to prepare its incident response teams. A continuous focus on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) lies at the core of Sembcorp’s business. As a leading supplier of essential utilities to major international companies at one of the UK's largest and most important manufacturing sites, Wilton International, any incident can result in disruption to operations. Preventing incidents from occurring and effective response if incidents do occur is a core part of Sembcorp’s strategy of managing HSE risks associated with its activities.

Sembcorp will use RescueSim to train its emergency fire and medical response teams in how to deal with major scenarios on top tier COMAH sites. Sembcorp will also look to develop opportunities with RescueSim to provide virtual incident training to industrial clients across the United Kingdom.

RescueSim is virtual training software that prepares emergency response teams for incidents in a realistic virtual environment without the cost, dangers and difficulties of real-life practical training. RescueSim is widely used by Fire & Rescue Services and leading industrial companies, including Shell and Dow Chemical, to improve the operational preparedness of their response crews.

Hans Ten Bergen, VSTEP Business Development Manager, said: “We are extremely pleased to have a leading utilities supplier as Sembcorp start using RescueSim. The leading industrial companies are continuously searching for new ways to manage their HSE risks. Across Europe, RescueSim has proven to be an important ”

Peter Burke, Sembcorp Operations Manager Protection Group commented: “Our emergency response team needs to be ready at all times for any industrial emergency that might occur on any of the plants on the sites in which we operate.  We evaluated the available training systems and selected RescueSim because of the flexibility the system provides to simulate incidents and its ease of use.
