FIA announces training programme for 2011

Published:  23 November, 2010

The UK's Fire Industry Association (FIA) has announced its training programme for 2011, providing a wide range of courses to offer those working within the many areas of fire safety with the knowledge and the practical skills to ensure they are up to date with all the latest industry developments.

The FIA has now successfully trained more than 30,000 delegates, from fire system designers to end users, and the 2011 programme is even more extensive, with some 148 course dates scheduled at venues throughout the UK. The FIA has its own, purpose-built dedicated training facility in Hampton but also recognises the benefits of taking the training courses out to other locations. A number of new locations have been added for courses in 2011, including Newcastle, Northampton, Norwich, Ipswich and Plymouth.

New for 2011 is a combined course which is being implemented following a successful trial in 2010. The course covers Units 1, 4 and 5 of the FIA programme, namely Fire Detection Design, Installation & Testing and Fire Alarm Maintenance respectively.

Amongst the other available courses are a refresher course for portable fire extinguisher maintenance, a course dedicated to Fluorinated Greenhouses Gases (F-Gas) and a recently added course on “Electrical competency” which provides fire alarm technicians/engineers with the knowledge to enable them to work safely on the electrical supply to fire alarm systems.
