In the year 2010-2011, according to the United Kingdom HSE statistics 171 workers were killed at work, a rate of 0.6 fatalities per 100 000 workers, 26.4 million days were lost overall, on an average 15 days per case of work-related illness or workplace injury. In the Middle East as per the HSE statistics the most common reasons cited for fire mishaps are non-working smoke alarms: worn or missing batteries.
