Last week Magirus, based in Ulm, Germany, launched a multitude of new innovations as part of the celebrations of its 150-year existence. Hemmingfire will be revealing all these new products over the coming weeks as well as in Fire and Rescue magazine Q3 with a full report. One of these new developments was Magirus Aircore, a high performance turbine for firefighting operations.

On Saturday 10 May seven fire engines and specialist vehicles from the west of the county along with colleagues from Essex Fire and Rescue Service will be called to the scene between 10pm and 2am to test the emergency services and other partner agencies response to a major incident in the tunnel, which crosses the River Thames in England.

With very few exceptions around the world, extrication is not carried out by a single agency. There will usually be technical rescue, medical rescue and police personnel on scene. In addition to this, specialists may also arrive whether this is to isolate electricity, operate heavy lifting equipment, carry out collision investigation or maybe even an air ambulance to evacuate a patient. Having an on-scene working relationship is one thing, but isn't a training or preplanning relationship at least equally important?

A second delivery of 67 medium Forestry Vehicles will follow in March under a contract worth 16 million Euros.

Firefighting teams from many countries have been competing for the title of International Firefighting Team of the Year’ in recent months. The winners were announced during an awards ceremony in Ulm, Germany, on Friday evening, November 22nd. Palermo Fire Department (Italy) was presented as the winner and was able to take the prestigious award home. The runner-up was Botosani Fire Department (Romania), while Mooskirchen Fire Department (Austria) celebrated third place.
