SweFan 21" - a PPV fan developed with Swedish firefighters
Published: 01 September, 2008
The SweFan 21” was launched in 2005 as a result of demand for a high quality fan with a high capacity but in a smaller size than the larger fan SweFan 24”.
Developed in close co-operation with the Swedish Fire and Rescue Service, the objective was to design and develop a highly efficient and low weight tool that could be relied upon.
According to Swedish manufacturer Dafo, an important feature of the SweFan is that it is easy to operate in stressful situations. “The design is strong and robust, and the fan features large wheels and handle to ensure easy transportation. The fan can easily be tilted in five different angles,” says Product Manager Krister Eriksson, adding that a reliable Honda engine and the strong and robust design leads to a minimum of vibrations.
Minimal maintenance is required because the fan is connected directly to the engine without any belt, so there are very few moving parts. “As long as the Honda engine has petrol and oil the fan will work!”
Accessories include exhaust hose, door adaptor and the Hi-Expansion foam adaptor “skumrask”.
Interestingly, Dafo was the first fan manufacturer to develop and introduce a foam adaptor to use with a PPV fan and water mist.
Dafo has produced an instructional PPV video too, “It is a training film and not a commercial film promoting a certain brand or product, so anyone using or thinking of introducing PPVs could benefit from it.”
Available in English and Swedish, the film can be ordered from Dafo in DVD/CD or video format for a price of EUR 55. SweFan 21” features:
• front and rear grill for safety
• blades of glass fibre reinforced polyamide composite for strength and low weight
• shroud to eliminate ground debris pick up
• five angle tilt capability
• Honda GX-160, 5,5 HP (4,0 kW / 3600 RPM)
• airflow: 28.791 m3/hr (8 m3/sec)
* weight: 39kg.
