Pozar zabija - fire kills

A UK fire service is targeting its fastest growing migrant population to ensure it has the same level of fire safety knowledge and access to prevention advice.
More that 5,000 Polish residents have moved into Surrey in the last five years, prompting Surrey FRS to start a campaign that fire kills – “pozar zabija”.
Woking Green watch has been working with the owner of a Polish food store and using the shop as an information point for Polish residents. “Polish people that are new to the area may feel more comfortable accessing information in this way and I am very happy to help any way I can,” said shop owner Maria Jablonaska.
Each year faulty appliances and overload sockets cause around 8,000 electrical fires, and earlier this year the Electrical Safety Council issued a warning that many Eastern Europeans were putting themselves and others at risk of fire or electric shock by using electrical appliances that had not been adapted for safe use in the UK.
