Scandal has erupted in a town in Connecticut after the fire chief resigned and six firefighters – including his sons – were charged with arson.
The six were members of Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department are believed to be responsible for – or have direct knowledge of – as many as 23 suspicious fires that occurred during the spring.
The group, who range in ages between 17 and 24, are alleged to have started the fires for the excitement of responding to the calls.
Most fires were small wildland fires but one – a school bus shelter – was structural.
The resignation and suspension has reduced the department’s active members from 32 to 25.
