Fire tender travels from Manchester to Macedonia

This fully kitted fire tender has travelled from Manchester (UK) to Macedonia, part of an ongoing mission to provide fire equipment and training to communities in need across the world.

One of four tenders that left both Manchester and Suffolk last month, the Siemens vehicle travelled through Calais, Brussels, Luxembourg, Stuttgard, Croatia, Dubrovnik, and eventually arrived in Skopje.

Balkan country Macedonia is prone to wildland fires but has not had a fire tender for the last 16 years. Wildland fires – which are common in this area – have been tackled in the past by volunteers with primitive equipment, including garden rakes.

The expedition was organised by Operation Florian, a fire service humanitarian charity made up of volunteer personnel from the fire services in the UK.
