New Emergency Response Guidebook 2008 published
Published: 01 June, 2008
The 2008 Emergency Response Guidebook (2008 ERG) has been published and includes a number of revisions and expanded/added sections.
Changes/improvements include shipping documents, a “how to use this guide during an incident” section, user’s guide, isolation and evacuation distances, and who to call for assistance.
The Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG2008) was developed jointly by the US Department of Transportation, Transport Canada, and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation of Mexico (SCT). It is intended for use by firefighters, police, and other emergency services personnel who may be the first to arrive at the scene of a transportation incident involving a hazardous material. It is primarily a guide to aid first responders in quickly identifying the specific or generic classification of the material(s) involved in the incident, and protecting themselves and the general public during this initial response phase of the incident.
It is available freely on: http://hazmat.dot.gov/pubs/erg/erg2008_eng.pdf (pdf version). A European version of ERG exists (ERICard – Emergency Response Intervention Card) and is available on www.ericards.net.
